Aclaro Information:

What is Aclaro?

Aclaro is a topically administered medication that can lighten dark areas of the skin such as sun spots, age spots, chloasma, melasma, freckles, and other discolorations. It prevents melanin, the pigment that darkens skin, from forming. While Aclaro does not repair damage from overexposure to ultraviolet rays, it can reduce the appearance of the discoloring effects of sun exposure.

How do I use Aclaro?

Aclaro is applied in the morning and before bedtime daily as directed on the label. Use only the recommended amount and only at the proper times prescribed by your doctor. Apply a test dose on a healthy area of skin to ensure that there is no allergic reaction. Use Aclaro daily with the proper dosage to achieve the most pronounced effect.

Before using Aclaro, tell your doctor if you:

  • Are pregnant or nursing
  • Have liver or kidney disease
  • Suffer from asthma attacks
  • Have a sulfite allergy
  • Are on any antibiotics

What are the possible side effects of using Aclaro?

Topical medications like Aclaro have a common set of side effects that may include mild itching, redness, irritation, burning, or stinging. If you experience severe redness, burning, stinging, dryness, bleeding, cracking, blistering, or blue and black skin discoloration, contact a medical professional as soon as possible. You may also be allergic to Aclaro if you notice hives, difficulty breathing, or experience facial swelling.

What if I forget to use a dose of Aclaro?

Apply a dose immediately once you remember that you missed it. If it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the dose that you missed. Do not take extra Aclaro to make up for the dose you missed.

How do I store Aclaro?

Keep Aclaro stored at room temperature and as far away as possible from heat and moisture. Make sure that the container lid is closed tightly when you’re not using the medication.

What happens if I overdose on Aclaro?

Overdosing on Aclaro is not likely to cause any negative effects. It is not intended for oral consumption. Contact a Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222 if you accidentally ingest Aclaro.

Warnings

Stay out of the sun and avoid tanning beds while using Aclaro. Application may cause your skin to burn more easily or become sensitive to cold and wind. Wear plenty of protective clothing and sunscreen if you must go outdoors during use. Check the label or ask your doctor to find out if Aclaro contains any sunscreens. Keep the medication away from eyes and other mucous membranes.  Use of Aclaro in combination with peroxide may cause staining that is removable with soap and water. Do not use shampoos, cleansers, hair color, or astringent while using Aclaro.
