Albendazole Information:
Albendazole is an anthelmintic medication that works by killing sensitive parasites. It is used to treat tapeworm and other parasitic infections.
Take this medication by mouth with food. If you can’t swallow the tablet whole, you can crush it or chew it with a little water. Use this medication as directed by your physician and consult the label for exact dosing instructions.
Before taking albendazole, tell your doctor if:
- You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding
- You are taking other medications or supplements, as these may interact with albendazole
- You have allergies to medicines, foods, or anything else
- You have liver, eye, or bone marrow problems, including low white blood cell or low platelet count
Common side effects of this medication include headache, nausea, stomach pain, and vomiting. You should seek medical attention right away if more serious side effects occur, including the following: severe allergic reactions, dark urine, decreased urination, fever, chills, or sore throat; red, swollen, peeling, or blistered skin; seizures, severe or persistent dizziness or headache, unusual bruising or bleeding, unusual tiredness or weakness, vision changes, yellowing of the eyes or skin.
If you miss a dose of this medication, take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to time for the next scheduled dose, skip it and go back to the normal dosing schedule. Don’t take two doses at once.
Store albendazole at room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. Don’t store it in the bathroom and keep it away from animals and pets.

Warnings
Albendazole can cause dizziness, which can increase with alcohol and other medications. Use caution when using this medication. It can also lower your ability to fight infections, so avoid people with colds or other infections. Do not use this medication if you are pregnant. If you might become pregnant, get a negative pregnancy test before taking albendazole and maintain birth control for a month after taking it. Discuss these options with your doctor.
