Avar-E Information:
What is Avar-E?
Avar-E contains sulfacetamide and sulfur, both of which can stop bacterial growth on the skin. Sulfur also causes the skin to dry out, which leads to more skin shedding and promotes healthier skin cell growth. Avar-E may be prescribed to treat rosacea, acne, or seborrheic dermatitis (a condition that leads to scaly patches of skin around the scalp).
How do I use Avar-E?
Clean and dry the affected skin before each application, and then apply a thin layer of Avar-E 1 to 3 times per day (as directed by your doctor). Gently rub the Avar-E cream in until it is no longer visible.
Before using Avar-E, tell your doctor if:
- You are sensitive to products with sulfur or sulfonamides
- You are using any other prescription or non-prescription drugs, supplements, or skin products
- You currently have any cracked skin or open wounds
- You have kidney disease
- You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant
What are the possible side effects of using Avar-E?
Mild skin irritation may occur, especially when you first start using Avar-E. Any irritation should go away as your body adjusts to the medicine. If you experience severe skin irritation or your skin becomes scaly at the application site, stop using Avar-E and call your doctor.
What if I forget to use a dose of Avar-E?
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next schedule dose, simply skip the missed one and proceed with your regular schedule. Applying too much of the Avar-E cream at once may increase your likelihood of experiencing skin irritation.
How do I store Avar-E?
Keep the Avar-E bottle or tube tightly sealed, and store it at room temperature. If you no longer need the medication or it has expired, talk to your pharmacist to determine how to safely dispose of it.
What happens if I overdose on Avar-E?
It is unlikely that you will absorb enough Avar-E through your skin to overdose on the medication. However, it may be harmful if swallowed. If you or someone in your home has ingested some of the medicated cream, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.
Warnings
Keep the Avar-E cream away from your eyes, nose, and mouth. If you accidentally get it in these areas, rinse with water immediately.
