Bisoprolol Fumarate Information:
What is bisoprolol fumarate?
Bisoprolol fumarate is a beta blocker, which works by affecting the response to nerve impulses in certain parts of the body, such as the heart. As a result of bisoprolol fumarate, the heart beats slower and decreases the blood pressure, increasing the amount of blood and oxygen to the heart. Indicated for the treatment of hypertension, bisoprolol fumarate combines two antihypertensive agents in a once-daily dosage which includes a synthetic beta1-selective (cardioselective) adrenoceptor blocking agent (bisoprolol fumarate) and a benzothiadiazine diuretic (hydrocholorothiazide). High blood pressure adds to the stress on the heart and arteries and, after a long period of continued stress, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels resulting in stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. High blood pressure may also increase the risk of heart attacks, which are less likely to occur if blood pressure is controlled.
How do I take bisoprolol fumarate?
As a supplement to the use of bisoprolol fumarate, your doctor may include weight control and changes in the types of food you eat, especially those high in sodium, to treat your high blood pressure. The recommended dosage of bisoprolol fumarate will be different for different patients. Your medicine will not cure your high blood pressure, but it does help control it and must be taken exactly as directed by your doctor.
Before taking bisoprolol fumarate, tell your doctor if:
- You have chest pain.
- You are diabetic.
- You have heart or vessel disease like slow heart rate, worsening heart failure, heart block, sick sinus syndrome or Raynaud’s disease.
- You have kidney or liver disease.
- You have lung or breathing disease, such as asthma or emphysema.
- You have pheochromocytoma.
- You have thyroid disease.
- You have an unusual or allergic reaction to bisoprolol, other beta-blockers, medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives.
- You are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

Additional possible side effects are rare, but include chest discomfort, lightheadedness, dizziness or fainting, or slow or irregular heartbeat.
What if I forget to take a dose of bisoprolol fumarate?
If you miss a dose of bisoprolol fumarate, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double dose.
How do I store bisoprolol fumarate?
Bisoprolol fumarate should be stored in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat and moisture, and out of direct lighting. Bisoprolol fumarate cannot be frozen and must be kept out of the reach of children. Do not keep outdated or unneeded medicine, and ask your pharmacist how you should dispose of any medicine you do not use.
What happens if I overdose on bisoprolol fumarate?

US residents can call their local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222, and Canadian residents can call a provincial poison control center.
