Levora Information:

What is Levora?

Levora is an oral contraceptive that contains .15mg of levonorgestrel (progestin) and .03mg of ethinyl estradiol (estrogen). The last 7 pills in the pack are reminder pills, meaning they do not contain any hormones. Levora, like other combination birth control pills, works by stopping ovulation and thickening cervical mucus to prevent the sperm from reaching the egg.

How do I take Levora?

To be the most effective, Levora pills should be taken at the exact same time every day. Not taking the pills at the same time increases your chances of becoming pregnant. These pills can be taken with or without food. Start your first pack of Levora on the first Sunday after your period starts. You will need to use back up birth control for 7 days. Take one pill every day until you finish the pack and then start a new one. You should get your period while you are taking the last 7 pills.

Before taking Levora, tell your doctor if:

  • You smoke cigarettes.
  • You have ever had a stroke or heart attack.
  • You are allergic to any of the ingredients in Levora pills.
  • You have a clotting disorder or have ever had a blood clot.
  • You have gallbladder disease.
  • You ever had breast cancer, breast lumps or any type of cancer of the reproductive system.
  • You suffer from depression.
  • You have diabetes.
  • You have high cholesterol or high blood pressure.
  • You get migraine headaches.
  • You could be pregnant or you are breastfeeding.
  • You are experiencing irregular vaginal bleeding.
  • You are taking any other prescription or nonprescription drugs, including antibiotics and antidepressants.

What are the possible side effects of taking Levora?

Side effects from taking Levora may include nausea, breast tenderness, spotting, bloating, melasma, headache and mild weight changes. If any of these side effects are extreme or don’t go away over time, tell your doctor. Serious side effects that you should report to a healthcare professional at once include loss of vision, negative mood changes, breast lumps, chest pain, shortness of breath, pain or swelling in the leg or calf, severe dizziness, vomiting, migraines, slurred speech, weakness or numbness on one side of the body, jaundice, fatigue and abdominal pain.

What if I forget to take a dose of Levora?

If you miss a pill, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. It it’s already time for your next dose, take two pills and continue on your regular schedule. If you miss two pills, you will need to take two when you remember and two the following day to catch up. You will also need to use back-up contraception for 7 days. If you miss more than two Levora pills in a row, call your doctor. If you miss any of the last seven pills in the pack, you can skip them.

How do I store Levora?

Store Levora in a place where it is easy for you to remember to take your pills at the same time every day. Also try to keep them at a temperature between 68 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit.

What happens if I overdose on Levora?

Overdose on Levora pills may cause nausea, vomiting and spotting. There have been no reports of serious adverse effects. If someone accidentally takes a large quantity of pills at once, call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222.

Warnings

Levora and other combination birth control pills can increase your risk of developing blood clots and having a stroke or heart attack, especially if you smoke and are over the age of 35. Do not smoke while taking Levora.
