Lisinopril/Hydrochlorothiazide Information:
What is lisinopril/hydrochlorothiazide?
Lisinopril/hydrochlorothiazide is a combination of the drugs lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide that is used to treat high blood pressure or hypertension. Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor that causes the dilation of blood vessels and reduces blood volume, therefore reducing blood pressure by allowing the blood to flow more smoothly. ACE inhibitors work by blocking the production of angiotensin II, a hormone that can cause blood vessels to narrow. Hydrocholothiazide is a diuretic that causes the elimination of water and salt through urination which reduces blood volume, thereby reducing strain on the heart and lowering blood pressure.
How do I take lisinopril/hydrochlorothiazide?
Lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide come in combination as a tablet to be taken orally with a glass of water. This medication is usually taken once or twice a day as per your doctor’s recommendation. Take your blood pressure medication at the same time every day, and try to take your last dose before 6 pm, as hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic and may cause you to wake up to urinate during the night.
Before taking lisinopril/hydrochlorothiazide, tell your doctor if:

- You have or have ever had asthma, high cholesterol, angioedema, or heart failure.
- You have lupus or other conditions of the immune system.
Ask your doctor about drinking alcohol with this medication. It may increase the risk of side effects. Talk to your doctor about how much water you should drink daily to stay hydrated as hydrochlorothiazide eliminates fluids in the body.
