Olysio Information:
What is Olysio?
Olysio is an antiviral medication that targets chronic hepatitis C, a virus that causes liver inflammation and potential damage. The Olysio drug is often prescribed alongside two other antiviral medications, peginterferon alfa and ribavirin, to treat hepatitis C. These other medications help prevent the virus from becoming resistant to Olysio.
How do I take Olysio?
Follow your doctor’s dosage instructions carefully. Most people who need this medication take one Olysio capsule with food every day. Swallow the capsule whole in order to ensure the medication is absorbed correctly.
Before taking Olysio, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to this medication, or you have a sulfa drug allergy
- You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription drugs or supplements, especially didanosine or St. John’s Wort
- You have previously taken Olysio, Victrelis, or Incivek and found they were ineffective
- You have any liver problems in addition to hepatitis C
- You have had a liver transplant

What are the possible side effects of taking Olysio?
The most commonly reported side effects of Olysio are mild skin irritation, muscle pain, and nausea. When used with the medication sofosbuvir, Olysio may also cause headaches and fatigue. Serious side effects are rare, but let your doctor know if you have any side effects that last a long time or become bothersome. Contact your doctor right away in the unlikely event that you experience a severe skin rash, mouth sores, eye redness or swelling, fainting, confusion, chest pain, or difficulty breathing.
What if I forget to take a dose of Olysio?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, as long as you have more than 12 hours until your next scheduled dose. If you have less than 12 hours, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the normal time. Do not take two doses at the same time to make up for a missed one.
How do I store Olysio?
Store Olysio in a tightly sealed container at room temperature. Keep your medication away from bright light, heat, and humidity, and do not leave it anywhere that children or pets could easily access it. If you have Olysio capsules that have expired, ask your pharmacist how to safely dispose of them.
What happens if I overdose on Olysio?
If you overdose on Olysio, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 right away. If you are experiencing severe adverse effects, call 911.
Warnings
Olysio can help treat hepatitis C, but it is not known if it can prevent the transmission of the virus to another person. Talk to your doctor about effective ways to avoid spreading hepatitis C. Try to limit the time you spend in the sun, since Olysio can make you more sensitive to the sun. Wear sunscreen or protective clothing when you do need to go outside.
