Quasense Information:
What is Quasense?
Quasense contains 84 active pills with .15mg of ethinyl estradiol (estrogen) and .03mg of levonorgestrel (progestin). There are seven inactive pills at the end of each pack. Quasense and other estrogen/progestin birth controls work by stopping ovulation, thickening cervical mucous and changing the endometrial lining to make it difficult for a fertilized egg to implant.
How do I take Quasense?
Choose a time of day that is best for you to remember to take your pill at the same time every day. Quasense is most effective when it is taken at the same time every day. Take one active pill per day for 84 days. Then take one inactive pill for seven days until you finish the pack. Menstruation should start during those seven days. If you don’t get your period, call your doctor. If you aren’t switching to Quasense from another birth control, you may have to use back-up contraception for seven days when you begin taking your pills. Ask your doctor if you need back-up contraception.
Before taking Quasense, tell your doctor if:
You regularly smoke tobacco.
You have ever had a stroke or heart attack.
You have ever had breast cancer or any cancers of the reproductive system.
You are allergic to any of the ingredients in Quasense pills.
You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
You have depression or another mental illness.
You get migraine headaches.
You have gallbladder or liver disease.
You have high cholesterol or high blood pressure.
You have diabetes.
You are taking any prescription or nonprescription medications or herbal supplements, including NSAIDs, aspirin, blood pressure medications, antibiotics, St. John’s wort, antidepressants, blood thinners, and any other drugs or supplements that have or affect hormones.
What are the possible side effects of taking Quasense?
Common side effects from taking Quasense include spotting between periods, breast tenderness, nausea, bloating and breast tenderness. These side effects should lessen overtime. If any of these side effects are severe or don’t go away, tell your doctor. Serious side effects that you should report immediately include chest pain, jaw pain, pain in the left arm, depression, yellow skin or eyes, vision changes, slurred speech, confusion, weakness or numbness in one side of the body, unusual vaginal bleeding, migraines and pain or swelling in the groin or calf.
What if I forget to take a dose of Quasense?
If you miss a dose of Quasense, take the missed dose as soon as you remember and continue on your regular routine. If you miss two doses, take two pills the day you remember and two pills the next day. Use back-up contraception for seven days. If you miss more than two pills, call your doctor.
How do I store Quasense?
Store your Quasense pack of pills in a place where you will always remember to take them. Keep the pills at a temperature between 68 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit, and keep them out of reach of children and pets.
What happens if I overdose on Quasense?
Signs of overdose on Quasense are similar to side effects. If someone has overdosed on Quasense, call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222.
