Roxicet Information:

Roxicet is a combination medication of acetaminophen and oxycodone, prescribed for the relief of moderate to severe pain. Oxycodone is a narcotic, or opioid pain medication, which is a controlled substance.

Take this medication exactly as your doctor prescribes, and follow all directions on the label. Oxycodone can slow your breathing, especially when starting the medication or when you change your dosage. Don’t use this medication in larger dosages than prescribed or for longer than prescribed. Overdoses can harm your liver and even be fatal. Don’t stop using this medication suddenly, as you may have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Talk to your doctor about how to stop using Roxicet and how to avoid habit-forming behaviors.

Before taking Roxicet, tell your doctor if:

·       You have any breathing problem or lung disease

·       You have liver disease, cirrhosis, or drink more than three alcoholic beverages daily

·       You have a history of substance abuse or mental illness

·       You have diarrhea, inflammatory bowel disease, or a blockage in your stomach or intestines

·       You have kidney disease or urination problems

·       You have problems with your gallbladder, pancreas, or thyroid

·       You have a history of head injury, brain tumors, or seizures

·       You use a sedative like Valium

·       You are taking any other medications, vitamins, or supplements

·       You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant

Common side effects include headache, drowsiness, tiredness, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, constipation, blurred vision, and dry mouth. Call your doctor immediately if you experience more serious side effects including shallow breathing, slow heartbeat, lightheaded feeling, confusion, unusual thoughts or behavior, seizures, problems with urination, infertility, missed periods, impotence, sexual problems, liver problems, and low cortisol levels.

Because Roxicet is used for pain management, you are unlikely to miss a dose. Skip any missed doses if it’s almost time for your next scheduled dose. Don’t use extra medication to make up for missed doses.

Store this medication at room temperature away from any sources of moisture and heat. Keep track of the amount of medication in each new bottle. Since this drug can be abused, ensure no one other than you is using this medication. Don’t keep leftover Roxicet tablets—utilize a drug disposal program through your pharmacy or ask your pharmacist for disposal instructions.

You should immediately seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222. A Roxicet overdose can be fatal, especially in someone for whom this medication is not prescribed. Overdose symptoms include slow breathing and heart rate, severe drowsiness, muscle weakness, cold and clammy skin, pinpoint pupils, and fainting.

Warnings

Don’t drink alcohol while taking this medication, as dangerous and fatal side effects can occur. Roxicet can impair your thinking and reactions. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it will affect you. Talk to a doctor before taking cold, allergy, sleep, or other pain medications, as acetaminophen is also contained in many of these combination medications and could cause an acetaminophen overdose.

Brand Names
