What is thioridazine?
The medicine in thioridazine is called a phenothiazine. Phenothiazine functions by balancing the volume of chemicals in the brain that dictate mood. What are the possible side effects of taking thioridazine?
When taking thioridazine, you may notice some common side effects, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, drowsiness, blurred vision, dry mouth, breast swelling, breast discharge, changes in menstrual periods, or swelling of the hands or feet. Get help from your physician if you notice more severe side effects such as uncontrolled facial movements, tremors, drooling, trouble swallowing, problems with balance, headache with chest pain and severe dizziness, fainting, unusual heartbeat, confusion, slurred speech, seizures (convulsions), sudden weakness or illness, fever, chills, sore throat, swollen gums, painful mouth sores, pain when swallowing, sores on the skin, cold-like symptoms, flu-like symptoms, cough, little or no urination, decreased ability to see at night, tunnel vision, watery eyes, increased light sensitivity, stiff muscles, high fever, or sweating.
What if I forget to take a dose of thioridazine?
Take your missed dose as soon as you remember to do so. Skip the dose that you missed if it’s almost time for you to take the next dose. Afterward, return to your regular dosing schedule. Never take two doses at once to make up for a missed dose.
How do I store thioridazine?
Store the thioridazine drug in a place that remains at room temperature throughout the day. Do not allow it near heat or moisture, such as in a bathroom. Keep it away from the reach of children and pets.
What happens if I overdose on thioridazine?
You may experience some of the severe side effects of this medication upon overdose. If you observe signs of an overdose, get to an emergency room as quickly as possible or call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.

The medicine in thioridazine has a tendency to impair your ability to think and react. If you must drive or operate machinery, be extremely cautious. Do not get up too quickly after sitting or lying down. Rise slowly to prevent falling. Do not drink alcohol when taking this medication, as it may cause you to experience severe side effects. If you use other medicines while taking this drug, you could experience a life-threatening heart rhythm disorder. Disclose all medication you are taking with your doctor.
