What is Zyclara?
The Zyclara medicine is an immune response modulator in cream form that is applied topically. While it is not known how Zyclara works in treating skin cancer or actinic keratosis, it is known that it combats genital and anal warts by helping the immune system resist the viruses that cause them; however, it does not cure the warts. How do I take Zyclara?
Zyclara is a cream that is applied to the affected area of the skin, and the frequency of application will depend on the condition being treated. For actinic keratosis and skin cancer, it should be left on the skin for at least eight hours; for the treatment of anal or genital warts, it should remain on the skin for six to ten hours. However, always follow doctor’s instructions. Do not cover the treated area with a bandage (cotton underwear may be worn if warts are being treated). Thoroughly wash hands after applying the cream. If genital or anal warts are being treated, refrain from sexual intercourse after the cream has been applied.
Before taking Zyclara, tell your doctor if:
- You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child

- You have a sunburn
- You are unusually sensitive to light
- You have skin diseases such as eczema, or psoriasis
- You have had recent surgery in the affected area, or are planning to have surgery
- You have HIV, AIDs, or any condition that affects the immune system
- You have GVHD (graft versus host disease)
What are the possible side effects of taking Zyclara?
Some patients have reported side effects after using the Zyclara medicine. Less severe side effects include back pain, skin problems (scaling, scabbing, flaking, drying, bumps, thickening, or blisters), skin discoloration, diarrhea, headaches, redness, swelling, itching, bleeding, stinging, burning, or pain in the affected area, or fatigue. However, if any of these symptom persist or worsen, contact your physician for help.
Severe side effects from using Zyclara, requiring immediate medical attention, include nausea, fever, muscle pain or weakness or other flu-like symptoms; skin damage with drainage. If you experience any symptoms not listed, contact your doctor.
What if I forget to take a dose of Zyclara?
If you forget to apply your scheduled dose of Zyclara, do so as soon as you remember and are able. However, if it is almost time for the next application, forego the missed application and resume the normal schedule. Do not apply extra quantities to make up for the one that was missed.
How do I store Zyclara?
Keep Zyclara in its original container, out of the reach of children, and away from extremes of temperature. Do not allow the medication to freeze. Dispose of any unused or expired medication according to the instructions of your pharmacist.
What happens if I overdose on Zyclara?
If Zyclara is ingested, contact Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has stopped breathing or lapsed into unconsciousness, contact Emergency Services at 911. Symptoms of an overdose include blurred vision, nausea, dizziness, and fainting.

Avoid sexual contact after applying the Zyclara cream if being treated for genital or anal warts. Do not use on broken skin or open wounds. Zyclara may cause skin discoloration. Contact your doctor if you become pregnant while using Zyclara. Do not use Zyclara around the eyes, mouth, lips, nostrils, anus, or vagina. Zyclara may damage or weaken condoms or diaphragms. May cause sensitivity to sunlight.
