Avar Information:
What is Avar?
The Avar medicine is a topical antibiotic containing sulfacetamide and sulfur. It is used to treat several skin conditions, including rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis, and acne. It works by shedding the top layer of skin and killing the bacteria that may be causing these conditions to flare up.
How do I apply Avar?
Always wash your hands before and after you use Avar, and read the instructions on the medication packaging carefully. Wash and dry the affected skin before applying the Avar cleanser, and gently rub the cleanser into your skin. Try to use the cleanser at the same time every day.
Before using Avar, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to Avar or have any other known allergies
- You are using any other prescription or non-prescription medications or supplements, especially methenamine or products containing silver
- You have eczema
- You have a history of lupus
- You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant
What are the possible side effects of using Avar?
Side effects of the Avar cleanser may include mild stinging, redness, scaling, or dry skin. If your skin is especially sensitive to this cleanser, talk to your doctor about alternative treatments. See a doctor right away if you experience extremely dry or cracked skin, a butterfly-shaped rash on your face, signs of infection (such as a fever or sore throat), peeling or blistering skin, severe skin redness or scaling, extreme fatigue, jaundice, skin inflammation, or seizures.
What if I forget to apply a dose of Avar?
If you miss a dose of Avar, apply the cleanser as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosage schedule. Do not apply more of the Avar medicine than you normally would in an effort to catch up.
How do I store Avar?
Keep Avar at room temperature, away from high heat, moisture, and bright light. Keep all prescription medications out of reach of any children and pets in your household, and talk to your pharmacist if you are unsure how to safely dispose of unused or expired topical medicines.
What happens if I overdose on Avar?
It is unlikely that you will suffer a serious overdose when using Avar topically (although using too much of the cleanser may make your skin condition worse). However, Avar can be very harmful if swallowed and may cause nausea, vomiting, and changes in your normal amount of urine. Call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 if you or someone in your household has swallowed any of this cleanser.
Warnings
Avar medicine is intended for use on your skin only; keep it away from your eyes, mouth, open wounds, and cracked or burned skin. Use Avar for only as long as your doctor has prescribed it, and do not stop the course of treatment early, as your infection may not completely clear up and the bacteria may become less sensitive to antibiotics in the future.
