Avar Ls Information:
What is Avar LS?
Avar LS is a combination medicine containing two antibiotics: sulfacetamide sodium and sulfur. As an antibiotic, it works by killing bacteria. It is most commonly used to treat acne, rosacea (a condition characterized by red patches on the face), and seborrheic dermatitis (a condition characterized by a flaking skin rash).
How do I take Avar LS?
The Avar LS cleanser can be used to wash your affected skin areas (usually on the face) once or twice a day (unless your doctor tells you otherwise). Gently massage the cleanser into your skin for 10-20 seconds before rinsing it off with water. Always wash your hands before and after using this medication. Don’t cover the affected skin areas with clothing or bandages unless your doctor tells you to do so.
Before taking Avar LS, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to sulfa drugs or you have any other allergies
- You are sensitive to sulfonamides or other cleansers
- You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription medications or supplements
- You have kidney disease
- You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant
What are the possible side effects of taking Avar LS?
Avar LS may cause some mild burning, stinging, redness, swelling, or itching. These side effects are usually not a cause for concern and typically go away as your body adjusts to the medication, but if you have any skin irritation that persists or worsens, inform your doctor. Stop using Avar LS and contact your doctor immediately if you have mouth sores, joint pain, a worsening skin rash, or a fever. Seek emergency medical attention in the unlikely event that you show signs of a severe allergic reaction, such as facial swelling, hives, and difficulty breathing.
What if I forget to take a dose of Avar LS?
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for another dose. In this case, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosage schedule. Do not use more of the Avar LS cleanser than you normally would.
How do I store Avar LS?
Store Avar LS at room temperature (as close to 77 degrees Fahrenheit as possible). Because heat and moisture can negatively affect this cleanser, do not store it in your bathroom. Keep this and all other prescription medications out of reach of any pets or children in your household. If you no longer need this cleanser and are unsure how to safely dispose of it, talk to your pharmacist.
What happens if I overdose on Avar LS?
You are not likely to overdose on Avar LS when applying it to your skin, but it is best to avoid excessive use of this medication, as overuse may lead to dry skin or other side effects. If you or anyone in your household swallows some of the Avar LS cleanser, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 right away.
Warnings
Avar LS is intended for topical use only; keep it away from your eyes, nose, or mouth, and immediately rinse with water if you get cleanser in any of these areas. Avoid using Avar LS on broken or otherwise irritated skin. Do not use other topical medications on your affected skin while you are using Avar LS.
