Bladder & Prostate Information & Discounts

Save on Bladder & Prostate medications with the free discounts below.

As men age, the prostate naturally enlarges.  This process is called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and has a variety of inconvenient consequences. Oftentimes, men can experience bladder difficulties because of problems with the prostate such as frequent urination, difficult urination, or dribbling between urinations.

More serious complications can also result from prostate problems, such as prostate infections and prostate cancer.  Prostate drugs can be used to lessen the symptoms of mild to severe prostate problems, and bladder medication can keep your flow more regular and daily activities more comfortable.

What are bladder and prostate problems?

Some difficulty with the bladder and prostate is a natural part of aging.  However, when problems become severe enough to interfere with daily life or painful, they can be treated through a variety of means.  One problem that requires medical attention is known as obstruction.  In essence, this means the prostate is blocking the flow of the urethra.  This makes it difficult or impossible to fully empty the bladder while urinating.  The only way to empty the bladder is through frequent urination, or uncontrollable dribbling between urinations.  A variety of bladder infection treatments can be prescribed to help with this situation, including overactive bladder medication.  In some cases, surgery may be required.

Unfortunately, surgery can sometimes exacerbate bladder complications before complete healing.  Excess of muscle contractions and muscle and nerve damage can both be short term side effects of prostate surgery and can arise because of unusual bladder function.  A combination of medication and exercise can help to relieve the symptoms.

Some of the Most Treatable problems are bladder and prostate infections.  Prostatitis is the medical name for infections of the prostate.  Prostatitis sufferers can experience severe pain, or can be completely symptom free.  Additionally, the different types of prostatitis can require different treatments, so it is important to obtain an accurate diagnosis from your doctor.  The problems can arise from both bacterial and nonbacterial sources, so prostate drugs mainly include antibiotics, or may be comprised of different types of medication.

Bladder Infections

Bladder infections are far more common in women than in men, though it is unclear why.  Bladder infections tend not to cause permanent or severe damage if treated in a timely fashion, but they do tend to reoccur.  Because of this, bladder infection treatments may be required at multiple times throughout the woman’s life.  In rare cases, these infections can create complications of the kidney, so it is important to begin bladder infection treatments as soon as possible.

How can I manage prostate and bladder problems?

Managing Prostate Infections

To improve prostate health, in combination of exercise and medication can be used.  Although antibiotics are an appropriate prostate medication for some types of infections, it may take an extended amount of time to find the correct antibiotic.  Generally, antibiotics are prescribed for a minimum of two weeks, but can be used for up to four weeks.  In cases where antibiotic treatment is ineffective, your doctor may prescribe a variety of antibiotics to find one that can resolve the problem.  If the condition becomes chronic, prostate drugs may be required for up to 12 weeks.

Managing Kidney Stones

While kidney stones are often very painful, not all of them require prescription strength kidney stone medication.  Instead, less severe kidney stones can be managed with pain medication and the intake of fluids.  Sometimes your doctor will prescribe medication to help pass the stone more easily.  Kidney stone medication used for this purpose seeks to dissolve the stone or increase flow through the urethra.  In extreme cases, such as where the kidneys stone is blocking the urethra or if there is an infection, your doctor may prescribe more drastic measures such as surgery to remove the stone.

Managing Overactive Bladder

Assuming there’s no infection or surgical procedure necessary, doctors generally treat overactive bladder using a series of different stages.  The first stage is altering lifestyle choices, such as reducing the intake of fluids and limiting the consumption of caffeinated and carbonated beverages.  Additionally, exercise may be recommended to strengthen muscles and reduce the frequency of urination.  If these changes alone are insufficient to elicit sufficient treatment, overactive bladder medication may be prescribed.  This medication can help reduce the urge to urinate.  Overactive bladder medication can also include antibiotic treatment if an infection it is present.  Your doctor may also recommend discontinuing medications that can cause overactive bladder such as cold and allergy medication.

What are the different types of medication for prostate and bladder health?

Antibiotics are used to treat a variety of bladder and prostate infections.  They can be prescribed for a range of time from 2 to 12 weeks depending on the severity in longevity of the infection.  Because these infections tend to reoccur, one antibiotic may not always be effective against the different infections.  Instead, you may be prescribed a variety of different antibiotic medications so that the infection is cleared.  The most common side effects of antibiotic medications are nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting.

Because many bladder and prostate problems can create significant discomfort even during treatment, many doctors will prescribe painkillers to enhance the quality of life during this process.  These are especially used when passing a kidney stone. The stone should naturally resolve itself, but the process can be a painful one.

What are the symptoms of bladder and prostate problems?

The most common symptom of bladder or prostate irritation is unusual urination.  If you notice that you are urinating more frequently, or have the desire to urinate more frequently, an infection may be present.  Contact your doctor immediately if you notice blood in your urine or if you are unable to urinate.  The symptoms of these problems can range from intense pain to no noticeable effect.  Because of this, it is important to schedule and keep regular appointments with your doctor so that he/she can check as to whether an asymptomatic infection has occurred.

Bladder & Prostate Drug Information

Levofloxacin Information

Levofloxacin (Levoquin ®)

Levofloxacin is a general antibiotic that can be used to treat a variety of infections.  It is particularly effective against infections of the urinary tract.  However, in rare cases it can cause disorders of the tendon including tendinitis.  Contact your doctor immediately if you notice joint pain, swelling, or stiffness of the joints.

Ciprofloxacin Information

Ciprofloxacin (Cipro®)

Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic prostate medication that is used to treat chronic prostatitis.  It is generally prescribed for 6 to 12 weeks, though it can be prescribed for an even longer period.  Chronic prostititus can persist even after long term antibiotic medication, so lifestyle changes and potentially surgery may need to be used in conjunction with ciprofloxacin.  Ciprofloxacin carries the risk of muscle damage, so discuss any medical problems you have had with your muscles with your doctor prior to use.

Celecoxib Information

Celecoxib (Celebrex®)

Celecoxib is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication that is prescribed to treat both pain and swelling that can arise with prostate and bladder infections. It carries the increased risk of stroke, so discuss with your doctor any problems you have ever had with your heart or blood circulation.
