What is Diovan HCT?
Diovan HCT is a combination of two medications, valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide, and is used to treat high blood pressure; it may also be prescribed to address heart failure or a heart attack. Valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist, working to keep blood vessels open, thereby increasing blood flow and lower pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic, contributing to the process by preventing the over-absorption of salt and subsequent fluid retention, by increasing urination.
How do I take Diovan HCT?
Diovan HCT is administered in tablet form and taken orally, usually once or twice a day, depending on the condition being treated and the recommendations of the doctor, and with or without food. It should be taken at the same time every day to establish a routine. Over time, your physician may increase or decrease the dosage as the condition requires.
Before taking Diovan HCT, tell your doctor if:

What are the possible side effects of taking Diovan HCT?
Some patients have reported side effects after taking Diovan HCT. Less severe side effects include stomach, back or joint pain, diarrhea, increased urination, fatigue, headache, blurred vision, nausea, loss of appetite, coughing, and hair loss. If any of these symptoms persist or worsen, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
Severe side effects that may result from taking this medication and that require immediate medical attention include symptoms of an allergic reaction (rash, itching, hives, difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling of the face, mouth, lips, tongue, or throat), sudden weight gain, unusual bleeding or bruising, thirst, dry mouth, vomiting, cramps, rapid heartbeat, signs of dehydration, or hoarseness.
What if I forget to take a dose of Diovan HCT?
If you forget to take your scheduled dose of Diovan HCT, do so as soon as you remember and are able. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, forego the one missed and resume the normal schedule. Do not take multiple doses to make up for the one missed.

Diovan HCT can cause death or injury to a developing fetus.
