Evoxac Information:
What is Evoxac?
Evoxac is a type of drug known as a cholinergic agonist. It helps treat Sjogren’s syndrome, a condition in which the body’s white blood cells attack the lacrimal and salivary glands, leading to dry eyes and dry mouth. Evoxac helps relieve dry mouth by stimulating nerves and increasing saliva production. This also helps people with Sjogren’s syndrome to swallow and speak more easily.
How do I take Evoxac?
Most people who use Evoxac take this medication three times a day, but your dosage will depend on your condition, so follow your doctor’s instructions carefully. Take each dose with a full glass of water. Continue taking Evoxac regularly, even if you don’t notice a difference right away. It may take up to six weeks to become fully effective, although many people begin to notice benefits within one to two weeks.
Before taking Evoxac, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to Evoxac or any other medications
- You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription medications or supplements, especially beta blockers
- You have any breathing problems (e.g. asthma, chronic bronchitis)
- You have any eye conditions (e.g. glaucoma)
- You have high or low blood pressure
- You have liver, kidney, or gallbladder problems
- You have stomach problems
- You have heart disease
- You have a mental or mood disorder
- You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant
What are the possible side effects of taking Evoxac?
Mild side effects of the Evoxac drug may include dizziness, nausea, blurred vision, excessive sweating, runny nose, and vaginal irritation. If you have any of these side effects and they last a long time or concern you, tell your doctor. If you experience any rare but serious side effects, stop taking the Evoxac drug and contact your doctor immediately. Serious side effects may include chest pain, severe stomach pain, difficulty breathing, irregular heart rate, vomiting, fever, jaundice, swollen hands or feet, eye pain, or mouth sores.
What if I forget to take a dose of Evoxac?
Take the forgotten dose as soon as you remember, unless it is within a few hours of your next scheduled dose. In this case, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not double your dose in an effort to catch up.
How do I store Evoxac?
Store Evoxac at room temperature (as close to 77 degrees Fahrenheit as possible, although brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees is acceptable). Do not store it in the bathroom, as light and moisture can negatively affect it. As with all prescription drugs, keep Evoxac out of reach of any children or pets in your household. If you need to throw out expired or unused medication but don’t know how to safely do so, talk to your pharmacist.
What happens if I overdose on Evoxac?
Overdosing on Evoxac can be very dangerous and may lead to nausea, vomiting, severe abdominal cramping, a slow heartbeat, difficulty breathing, excessive sweating, tremors, blurred vision, confusion, and fainting. If you believe that you or someone in your household has overdosed, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 right away. If the person who overdosed has lost consciousness, seek emergency medical help.
Warnings
Since Evoxac can cause dizziness or blurred vision, you should avoid driving or participating in any other activities that require clear vision until you know how the medicine affects you. Evoxac may also cause excessive sweating, so be careful not to become overheated or dehydrated in hot weather or when working out. Drink plenty of fluids to help prevent dehydration.
Brand Names
The generic equivalent of Evoxac is called cevimeline. Although generic drugs are usually less expensive than their brand name equivalents, cevimeline is sometimes actually more expensive than Evoxac, especially when you factor in the Evoxac coupon discount from our site. Compare prices at your local pharmacy and talk to your doctor to determine which medication is right for you.
