Nuvail Information:
What is Nuvail?
Nuvail is a prescription liquid solution containing poly-ureaurethane. It is used to treat nail dystrophy, which causes nails to become fragile and crack. The Nuvail solution is applied in an invisible film on top of the nails, protecting them from abrasion and moisture.
How do I take Nuvail?
Use the applicator that comes with Nuvail to apply a thin, even layer of the solution to your fingernails once a day before bedtime. Make sure the cap on this medication is tightly sealed when you are done using it. Once a week, use nail polish remover to clean your nails. It is alright to wear nail polish over the Nuvail film, but wait until Nuvail has completely dried before applying it, and remove the polish before you use the medication again.
Before taking Nuvail, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to poly-ureaurethane
- You have any other allergies
- You are using any other prescription or non-prescription medications or supplements
- You are sensitized to isocyanate
- You have any open wounds on your fingers near your nails
- You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant
What are the possible side effects of taking Nuvail?
Nuvail sometimes causes mild stinging upon application. This typically does not last long, but if it continues or becomes severe, tell your doctor right away. Stop using Nuvail and call your doctor if you notice redness or any other signs of irritation around the application site.
What if I forget to take a dose of Nuvail?
If you forget a dose of Nuvail, apply it as soon as you are able. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed application and proceed with your normal schedule. Do not apply more of the solution than you normally would in an effort to catch up.
How do I store Nuvail?
Store Nuvail at room temperature (59 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit). Keep it out of humid and excessively warm environments (do not store it in the bathroom). Because the solution is flammable, you should store it far away from open flames and sources of ignition. If you no longer need this medication, or if the expiration date on the bottle has passed, ask your pharmacist how to safely dispose of the solution.
What happens if I overdose on Nuvail?
Overdosing on Nuvail should not be a concern since this medication is applied topically to the nails. However, if you or someone in your household swallows some of the liquid, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 immediately.
Warnings
Do not use other creams, lotions, or ointments on or around your fingernails before applying Nuvail, as this may prevent the film from forming correctly. Always apply Nuvail in a well-ventilated area. Keep the liquid solution away from open wounds.
