Betimol Information:
What is Betimol?
Betimol is ophthalmic timolol, a beta blocker, in topical solution form that is prescribed to treat open-angle glaucoma; it works by decreasing pressure within the eye. It may also be prescribed to treat other causes of eye pressure.
How do I take Betimol?
Betimol is an ophthalmic solution that is instilled directly onto the eye(s). The amount used and frequency of dosing will depend on the patient profile and the recommendations of the doctor. To instill the medication, follow the instructions that come with the medication. If you have not used eye drops before, ask your healthcare provider to demonstrate the procedure. If you are using another topical eye medication, instill it ten minutes before or after using Betimol. Wait fifteen minutes after instilling Betimol before wearing contact lenses. This medication will not cure your condition; continue to use it even if you feel well. Do not discontinue its use without permission from your doctor.
Before taking Betimol, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to timolol or any of the ingredients in Betimol
- You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child
- You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications, vitamins, or supplements
- You are using another topical eye medication
- You are taking beta blockers, verapamil, or quinidine
- You have, or have had, diabetes, congestive heart failure, heart disease, myasthenia gravis, thyroid disease, or lung disease
- You have, or have had had, an eye injury or eye surgery
- You will be having any type of surgery, including dental.
What are the possible side effects of taking Betimol?
Some patients have reported side effects after using Betimol eye drops. Less severe symptoms include depression, dizziness, double vision, eye irritation, headache, and nausea. If any of these conditions persist or worsen, contact your healthcare provider.
Severe side effects requiring immediate medical attention include signs of an allergic reaction (rash, hives, itching, peeling or blistered skin; swelling of the face, mouth, lips, throat, or tongue; difficulty breathing or swallowing), arrhythmia, bradycardia, fainting, or sudden weight gain.
What if I forget to take a dose of Betimol?
If you forget your scheduled dose of Betimol, instill it as soon remember and are able. However, if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip the one missed and resume the regular schedule. Do not increase the amount instilled or change the regimen to make up for one that was missed.
How do I store Betimol?
Keep Betimol tightly sealed in its original dispenser, out of the reach of the reach of children and away from extremes of temperature and humidity. Do not allow the solution to freeze; do not use this medication if it is cloudy or discolored. Dispose of any unused or expired quantity according to the instructions of your pharmacist.
What happens if I overdose on Betimol?
Betimol is for topical application only. If it has been accidentally ingested, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has stopped breathing or lost consciousness, contact Emergency Services at 911.
