Ocuflox Information:

What is Ocuflox?

Ocuflox is a quinolone antibiotic used to treat bacterial eye infections. It comes as a liquid solution that is applied directly to the affected eye(s) with a dropper.

How do I use Ocuflox?

Wash your hands before each Ocuflox application. Tilt your head back and gently pull down your lower eyelid while looking up. Squeeze one drop of the Ocuflox solution into the affected eye, then look down and close the eye for at least one minute. Keep a finger pressed against the inner corner of the eye to keep any liquid from leaking out. If you have been instructed to apply more than one drop to the same eye, wait about five minutes before repeating the process.

Before using Ocuflox, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to this or any other medications
  • You are using any other prescription or over-the-counter drugs, especially other eye drops
  • You wear contact lenses
  • You have a viral or fungal eye infection
  • You have any other eye problems
  • You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant

What are the possible side effects of using Ocuflox?

Serious side effects of Ocuflox are rare. However, this medication may cause mild stinging, burning, or other irritation when first applied to your eye. It may also cause temporarily blurred vision, eyelid itching, change in taste, tearing, or sensitivity to light. If any of these side effects last a long time or become severe, or if you have any other side effects that concern you, tell your doctor.

What if I forget to apply a dose of Ocuflox?

Administer the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it’s almost time for your next scheduled dose. In this case, skip the missed dose and apply your next dose at the normal time. Do not apply more drops than you normally would for a single dose.

How do I store Ocuflox?

Keep your Ocuflox bottle tightly sealed and out of reach of children and pets. Store it in a dry space at room temperature. If you notice that the solution has become cloudy or discolored, or if it has particles floating in it, throw it out. If you’re unsure how to safely dispose of this ophthalmic medicine, talk to your pharmacist.

What happens if I overdose on Ocuflox?

It is unlikely that you will overdose when applying Ocuflox to your eyes. However, if you are concerned you have accidentally applied too many drops, rinse your eye out with water and call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222. You should also call Poison Control if you or someone in your home has swallowed any of this medicine.

Warnings

Do not wear contacts or use any other eye drops during your course of treatment with Ocuflox, unless your doctor has given you express permission to do so. Do not let the tip of the Ocuflox eye dropper touch your eye or any other surfaces, as this may cause it to become contaminated. If Ocuflox causes your vision to blur, do not drive or perform any other activities that require clear sight until your vision is back to normal.

Brand Names

Ocuflox is a brand name drug. The FDA has approved a generic equivalent, ofloxacin, that is considerably less expensive. Your doctor may allow you to switch to the generic to save money, and even if you can’t switch, you can still save by using an Ocuflox coupon from HelpRx.
