What is Ovace Plus?
Ovace Plus is a combination of sulfacetamide antibiotic and sulfur, a keratolytic that thins skin. The combination of bacteria fighting action, keratin softening, and skin sloughing helps reduce the presence of acne and rosacea. It can also help fight skin infections that have caused temporary or permanent skin damage.
How do I use Ovace Plus?
Ovace Plus is usually administered as a medicated wash. Clean and dry the treatment area completely before use. Apply Ovace Plus in a thin layer and rub it in gently. Work it into a lather, then massage the lather on the skin and rinse with tap water. Pat the affected area dry with a clean towel. When treating the scalp, apply the foam to dry hair. Massage into the scalp until the foam dries completely. Do not use this medication over a large area of skin.
Before using Ovace Plus, tell your doctor if:
- You have lupus
- You suffer from asthma
- You have a sulfite allergy
- You are pregnant, nursing, or planning to become pregnant
What are the possible side effects of using Ovace Plus?
Use of Ovace Plus may affect the skin and includes some common side effects such mild swelling, itching, or redness, dryness, or yellow discoloration in the treatment area. Notify a healthcare professional immediately if you experience skin rash, pale skin, bruising or bleeding, new or worsening skin infection, liver problems, itching, tired feeling, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice, lupus-like symptoms, joint pain, swelling with fever, swollen glands, aching muscles, chest pain, vomiting, unusual thoughts or behavior, patchy skin, or severe skin reaction.
What if I forget to use a dose of Ovace Plus?
Wash with your missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip any of your missed doses if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. You should not take extra medicine to make up for missed doses.
How do I store Ovace Plus?
Store at room temperature, distanced from moisture and heat. Do not allow the medication to freeze. Store the canister upright and don't allow it near open flame or high heat. The canister has a high chance of exploding if it gets too hot.
What happens if I overdose on Ovace Plus?
If you notice signs of overdose such as nausea and vomiting, blood in urine, or low urination frequency, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 or get to an emergency room immediately.
Warnings
Even if symptoms improve, you may need to keep using the medicine 1-2 times per week, or at least once every other week. Follow all instructions given to you by your doctor. Talk to a physician if your condition comes back after you stop using Ovace Plus.
