Aggrenox Information:
What is Aggrenox?
Aggrenox consists of a combination of aspirin and dipyridamole. Both of these medications work in different ways to inhibit the aggregation of platelets which prevents blood clots and strokes. It is normally prescribed for patients with ischemia or transient ischemia of the brain.
How do I take Aggrenox?
Aggrenox comes in doses of 25mg of aspirin and 200mg of dipyridamole in one capsule. This medication is usually taken twice daily, once in the morning and once before bedtime. Aggrenox can be taken with or without food. Always follow your doctor’s instructions regarding dosage and times. Your individual dosing requirements may differ from others.
Before taking Aggrenox, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to any of the ingredients in Aggrenox.
- You are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medications, especially aspirin.
- You are taking any herbal supplements or vitamins.
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You are age 65 or older.
- You have or have ever had gastrointestinal ulcers or you have recently experienced rectal bleeding or abdominal pain.
- You have aspirin-sensitive asthma.
What are the possible side effects of taking Aggrenox?
Possible side effects from taking Aggrenox include nausea, headache, vomiting, flushing, diarrhea, dizziness and heartburn. More serious side effects may include unusual bleeding or bruising, nosebleeds or bleeding gums, irregular heartbeat, loss of appetite, dark urine, fatigue, and yellow skin or eyes. If you experience any severe, persistent or unusual side effects, tell your doctor at once.
What if I forget to take a dose of Aggrenox?
If you miss a dose of Aggrenox, take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and continue on your normal regimen. Never take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
How do I store Aggrenox?
Store Aggrenox tightly closed in its container at a temperature between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Protect your medication from light and moisture and keep it out of reach of children and pets.
What happens if I overdose on Aggrenox?
Signs of overdose on Aggrenox include feeling flushed and sweating, feeling restlessness and dizziness, feeling weak and having a rapid heart rate. Other symptoms may include a ringing sound in the ears. If you think you or someone you know has accidentally overdosed on Aggrenox, get medical attention immediately.
Warnings
Aggrenox can cause you to bleed more easily. Be careful when shaving, brushing your teeth or doing other activities that could possibly cause minor scrapes or cuts. If you notice signs of internal bleeding or you ever experience uncontrollable bleeding, get medical attention immediately. Do not take this medication while pregnant or if you think you might be pregnant.
