What is Oseni?
Oseni is an oral anti-diabetes medication and is the brand name for a proprietary combination of the drugs alogliptin and pioglitazone. It is prescribed, along with changes in diet and exercise, to help control blood sugar levels in those with Type II diabetes; it is not for those who have Type I diabetes.
How do I take Oseni?
Oseni is dispensed in pill form and taken orally, with or without food, according the schedule established by your doctor. Do not take more or less of the Oseni drug than has been prescribed and do not chew, crush, or break the pill. Oseni does not cure diabetes; continue to take the medication even if you feel well. Your doctor may adjust your diet, so regular and frequent checking of blood sugar levels may be required.
Before taking Oseni, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to alogliptin, pioglitazone, or any of the ingredients in the Oseni medication
- You are allergic to DPP-4 inhibitors or any medications
- You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child
- You have, or have had, congestive heart failure, heart problems, pancreatitis, or bladder cancer
- You have, or have had, gallstones, kidney or liver disease, or eye problems brought on by diabetes
- You drink alcohol and your rate of consumption
- You have a history of alcoholism
- You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications
- You are taking atorvastatin, gemfibrozil, ketoconazole, rifampin, nifedipine, or midazolam
- You are taking medications to treat diabetes
- You are taking insulin
What are the possible side effects of taking Oseni?
Some people have reported side effects after taking the Oseni drug. Less severe side effects include sore throat, headache, runny nose, stuffiness, gas, muscle pain, or pain in the arms and legs. If any of these conditions persist or worsen, contact your doctor.
Severe side effects requiring immediate medical attention include signs of an allergic reaction (hives, rash, blistering, itching, swelling of the face, mouth, lips, throat, or tongue, or difficulty breathing or swallowing), changes to or loss of vision, fever, pain in the back or abdomen, problem or painful urination, changes to urine color, stomach pain that moves to the back, excessive fatigue, hoarseness, changes in appetite, symptoms of jaundice, or vomiting.
What if I forget to take a dose of Oseni?
If you forget to take a scheduled dose of Oseni, do so as soon as your remember and are able. However, if it is close to the time for the next scheduled dose, skip the one missed and resume the regular dosing schedule.
How do I store Oseni?
Keep Oseni tightly sealed in its original container, out of the reach of children and away from the extremes of temperature and humidity. Dispose of any unused or expired pills according to the instructions of your pharmacist.
What happens if I overdose on Oseni?
If Oseni drug overdose is suspected, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has stopped breathing or lost consciousness, contact Emergency Services at 911.
Warnings
Do not take Oseni if you are in a state of diabetic ketoacidosis. Contact your doctor if you become pregnant while taking this medication. Oseni may cause pancreatitis. Do not take this medication if you have bladder cancer or suffer from uncontrolled or severe heart failure. Oseni may increase the risk of serious heart problems (including congestive heart failure) or liver problems. Do not drink alcohol while taking Oseni.
