What is Repaglinide?
Repaglinide is a generic drug that comes in tablet form, and it is used to treat type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is a health condition in which the body does not process insulin normally and, as a result, the body cannot control its blood sugar levels. This drug helps the body to regulate glucose (or sugar) levels in the blood. It works by decreasing glucose levels in the body by stimulating the pancreas to release insulin.
How do I use Repaglinide?
Repaglinide tablets are to be taken orally, and it is typically advised that Repaglinide be taken before meals, anywhere from 30 minutes before a meal up until right before you begin your meal.
Take this drug as directed by your doctor, and follow your doctor’s instructions carefully for using this drug. Do not stop taking this medication without first consulting with your doctor.
Before using Repaglinide, tell your doctor if:

you are allergic to Repaglinide or any other medications

you are taking any prescription or over-the-counter medications, vitamins, or nutritional or herbal supplements

you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or if you are breastfeeding

you have or have ever had liver disease or kidney disease

you have been told you have type I diabetes mellitus

What are the possible side effects of using Repaglinide?
Contact your doctor if you experience these symptoms and if they do not go away:

headache
-
nasal congestion

joint aches or back pain
-
diarrhea or constipation
You may experience hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar, while you are taking this medication. Consult with your doctor about what you should do if you experience any of the following symptoms of hypoglycemia. Your doctor may tell you to drink fruit juice or sugary candy, or to check your blood sugar. Symptoms of hypoglycemia include:

shakiness, dizziness, or lightheadedness
-
nervousness or irritability, or other sudden changes in behavior or mood
-
headache
-
sweating
-
numbness or tingling around the mouth
-
weakness
-
pale skin
-
hunger
-
clumsy or jerky movements
If hypoglycemia is not treated, the following severe symptoms may develop. Be sure your family and people you spend time with are aware of the following symptoms and that they should seek immediate medical attention on your behalf if you experience any of the following:

confusion
-
seizures
-
loss of consciousness
Contact your doctor immediately if you have any of the following symptoms of hyperglycemia, or high blood sugar:

extreme thirst or hunger

frequent urination
-
weakness
-
blurred vision
If hypoglycemia is not treated, a serious, life-threatening condition called diabetic ketoacidosis could develop. Seek immediate medical attention if you have any of these symptoms:

blurred vision
-
upset stomach and vomiting
-
shortness of breath
-
breath that smells fruity
- decreased consciousness
What if I forget to use a dose of Repaglinide?
If you have just started to eat a meal, take your missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if you have finished eating your meal, skip the missed dose and then continue to take this drug on your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a 2 doses of this drug at once.
How do I store Repaglinide?
Store this medication tightly closed when not in use. Store it at room temperature and keep away from excess moisture and heat. Keep this medication out of reach of children and away from pets. Properly dispose of any expired or unnecessary medication.
What happens if I overdose on Repaglinide?
In case of overdose, call Poison Control (1-800-222-1222) to find out what to do, or seek immediate medical attention.
