Xarelto Information:
What is Xarelto?
Xarelto is an anticoagulant medication that is used to stop thrombosis, or blood clotting inside of a blood vessel. Blood clotting is a complicated process that begins with the activation of a cascade of chemicals after the body detects injury. This cascade results in the formation of an enzyme called thrombin. Thrombin causes the production of a protein called fibrin that ultimately binds platelet cells together, forming blood clots. Thrombosis occurs when a blood clot forms abnormally in the blood vessels. This poses a serious danger to the individual as the blood clot can break free and travel through the blood stream, possibly blocking the heart, lungs, or brain. Xarelto stops the formation of thrombin, thereby preventing blood clots and stroke.
