Climara Pro is a transdermal medication that contains the same ingredients as most birth control pills: a combination of estrogen and progestin. In Climara Pro the types of estrogen and progestin used are estradiol and levonorgestrel, and these patched contain slightly higher doses of estrogen than the average birth control pills. How do I apply Climara Pro?

Before using a Climara Pro patch, wash and dry the area of skin where it will be applied. The patch should be applied to a smooth area of skin where there are no folds and no hair on the lower abdomen or the upper buttock. Never apply this patch near the breasts and try to avoid placing it anywhere where it might be rubbed off by clothing. Apply the patch immediately after opening a packet and press it in place for at least 10 seconds. Application sites should be rotated. For example, if you use the first patch on your abdomen, place the next patch on your upper buttock or any other area your doctor has approved. Always follow your doctor’s instructions.

What are the possible side effects of applying Climara Pro?

Possible side effects from Climara Pro include redness or irritation at the site of application, weight changes, nausea, bloating, headache, breast tenderness and vomiting. If any of these side effects are severe or if they don’t go away, tell your doctor. Serious side effects that should be brought to the attention of your doctor as soon as possible include negative mood changes, memory loss, breast lumps, spotting or unusual vaginal bleeding, severe abdominal pain, swelling hands or feet, dark urine and jaundice.

Climara Pro can increase your risk of blood clots, stroke and heart attack. Symptoms that require immediate medical attention include weakness or numbness on one side of the body, left arm or jaw pain, chest pain, slurred speech, confusion, tingling or swelling in the arms or legs, sudden dizziness, sudden headache and coughing up blood.

What if I forget to apply a dose of Climara Pro?

Never apply more than one Climara Pro patch at a time. If you forget to apply a new patch, apply it as soon as your remember and continue on your normal schedule. If a patch falls off, it may be reapplied. If it won’t stick, a new patch may be started on a different area of skin.

How do I store Climara Pro?

Store Climara Pro patches in their packets at a room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep this medication out of reach of children and pets, and be sure that children or pets cannot access discarded patches.

What happens if I overdose on Climara Pro?

An overdose of Climara Pro will result in exaggerated side effects. If you think you are getting too much of this medication, tell your doctor. If someone accidentally ingests this medication, call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222.
