Osphena Information:

What is Osphena?

Osphena is an oral prescription medication used to treat moderately to severely painful sexual intercourse caused by vaginal tissue thinning after menopause. It works by repairing and rebuilding specific vaginal tissue to reduce pain.

How do I take Osphena?

Follow your doctor or pharmacist’s directions and pay attention to all instructions on your prescription label. Typically, women who need the Osphena drug will take a 60mg tablet once a day with food. You should talk to your doctor every 3 to 6 months to determine if you should continue with the same dosage or if you should discontinue treatment with Osphena.

Before taking Osphena, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to Osphena or any other medications
  • You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription medications
  • You have had any unusual vaginal bleeding after menopause
  • You have liver problems
  • You have or have had a type of cancer affected by female hormones
  • You have or have had blood clots
  • You have had a stroke or heart attack
  • You are going to have surgery or will need to be on bed rest
  • You think you may be pregnant

What are the possible side effects of taking Osphena?

The most common side effects of the Osphena drug include vaginal discharge, hot flashes, muscle spasms, and increased sweating. If any of these side effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following rare but serious side effects: severe headaches, pain in chest or legs, shortness of breath, extreme fatigue, changes in vision, or unusual vaginal bleeding.

What if I forget to take a dose of Osphena?

Take the missed dose of Osphena as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Never double your dose to catch up.

How do I store Osphena?

Keep Osphena at room temperature (between 68 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit). Always keep this and all prescription medications out of reach of pets and children.

What happens if I overdose on Osphena?

You should never take more than your prescribed dosage of Osphena. If you or someone in your household does overdose on this drug, contact your local poison control center by calling 1-800-222-1222.

Warnings

Osphena may increase your risk for developing blood clots or cancer of the uterus. Talk to your doctor about risk factors before you start taking this medication. The Osphena drug can also affect how other prescription drug works, so let your doctor know about any other medications you are currently taking.
